How to use the Wheel of Names

  1. Type names into the Entries box, one per line, or paste a column straight from Google Sheets or Excel.
  2. Click the wheel or the Spin the wheel button. On a keyboard, Ctrl + Enter (⌘ + Enter on Mac) spins too, even while you’re typing names.
  3. When it stops, the winner pops up. Keep them on the wheel, or remove them so nobody is picked twice.
  4. Open Results to see every spin, then copy or export it as a CSV.
  5. Click the share button next to Spin to copy a link to your wheel. No account needed.

What makes this spin wheel different

  • Fair, verifiable randomnessWinners are chosen with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator, the same kind used for security keys. See how it works and test it yourself.
  • No-repeat modeSet “After a winner is picked” to remove winners automatically, then restore the whole list with one click when the round is over.
  • Weighted entriesTurn on weights and write Name *3 to give someone three times the chance. The slice grows to match, so the odds are visible.
  • Private by designYour lists are saved in your own browser, not on our servers. There is nothing to sign up for.
  • Works offlineAfter your first visit the wheel keeps working on spotty school or event Wi-Fi.
  • Projector-readyFull-screen mode, big readable labels, and five color themes including high contrast.
  • AccessibleEvery control works by keyboard, results are announced to screen readers, and the spin is shortened if you prefer reduced motion.
  • Big listsUp to 1,000 entries per wheel, with labels sized automatically to fit.

Popular ways to use a name wheel

Teachers use it to call on students fairly, pick line leaders, and form groups. The classroom name picker removes students automatically so everyone gets a turn.

Streamers and small businesses run giveaways with the raffle wheel, which adds a draw receipt you can post as proof.

Teams and offices pick who presents first, who takes notes, or split people into groups with the random team generator.

Stuck on a choice? The yes or no wheel settles it, and the random number wheel picks numbers for games, raffles, and lotteries.

Sports fans settle fantasy drafts and video game picks with the NFL team wheel and NBA team wheel.

Tips for a better spin

  • Add a wheel title in Settings, such as “Who presents first?”, so everyone watching knows what the spin is for.
  • Use Shuffle before spinning in front of a group so the order on the wheel looks mixed.
  • Set the spin time anywhere from 1 to 20 seconds. Longer spins build suspense, shorter ones keep a lesson moving.
  • Turn sound off for quiet rooms. Your choice is remembered next time.

Frequently asked questions

Is this Wheel of Names free?

Yes. Every feature is free and there is no account or sign-up. Just open the page and spin.

Is the wheel truly random?

Yes. The winner is picked with the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues) before the animation starts, and the wheel then lands on that slice. Every entry has an equal chance unless you turn on weights. You can run 10,000 test spins on our fairness page to check.

How do I stop the same name from being picked twice?

Open Settings and set “After a winner is picked” to “Remove it automatically.” Each winner is taken off the wheel. When the round ends, click “Restore all” to put everyone back.

How many names can I put on the wheel?

Up to 1,000 entries. Labels shrink automatically so they fit, and very long names are shortened on the wheel but shown in full in the winner pop-up.

Are my names saved?

Your list, settings, and results are saved in your browser’s local storage on this device. They are never uploaded to our servers. Clearing your browser data removes them.

How do I share my wheel?

Click the share button next to “Spin the wheel.” The whole list is packed into the link itself, so whoever opens it sees the same wheel without needing an account.

Can I give someone a better chance of winning?

Yes, openly. Turn on “Weighted entries” in Settings and add *2, *3, and so on after a name. The slice size changes to match, so everyone can see the odds.

Does it work on phones, tablets, and Chromebooks?

Yes. The site is built mobile-first and works in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, iPad, Chromebook, Mac, and Windows.
